An 83-year-old hiker from Utah has been found and rescued after going missing in a remote section of the Grand Canyon’s North Rim, National Park Service officials announced on Thursday.
Gerald Guinn of Kanab reportedly became separated from his hiking partner on Tuesday afternoon while trekking near the northeast boundary along Forest Service Road 610, an area known as Dog Saddle.
The search for Guinn began Tuesday after he was reported missing around 5 p.m. Officials noted that Guinn did not have any camping equipment or hiking gear with him at the time.
Search efforts continued through Wednesday, involving the use of helicopters and drones to comb the area. At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a helicopter search crew spotted Guinn about 2.5 miles from his last known location.
Following his discovery, Guinn was flown to a nearby road where paramedics checked him before he was transported by ambulance to a hospital in stable condition.
The search operation included personnel from Kane County Search and Rescue, Coconino County Search and Rescue, and Grand Canyon National Park.
