An unattached garage in Tremonton was destroyed after a refrigerator malfunctioned, causing the structure to be engulfed in flames on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026.
Firefighters extinguished the residential garage fire shortly after 5 p.m. following multiple 911 reports of explosions in the area, according to emergency officials.
Crews from the Tremonton Fire Department responded to the scene, receiving automatic aid from the Garland Fire Department. Upon arrival, emergency personnel encountered heavy smoke and flames pouring from the garage.
Firefighters declared a working fire and initiated an aggressive attack to suppress the blaze. Their rapid response prevented the fire from extending to a nearby primary residence or an adjacent recreational vehicle parked on the property. No injuries were reported among residents or first responders.
A preliminary investigation determined the fire was likely triggered by a malfunctioning refrigerator kept inside the garage.
The Tremonton Fire Department stated that the incident highlights the value of strong interagency cooperation and commended the seamless response coordinated with the Garland Fire Department, Tremonton Garland Police Department, and Weber Area Dispatch 911 & Emergency Services District.
Officials also praised community members for their quick action, noting that prompt 911 calls from neighbors provided dispatchers with real-time details that allowed crews to arrive quickly and safely.
Fire personnel are encouraging residents to routinely inspect electrical equipment, service older appliances, and keep garage spaces free from unnecessary combustible materials to reduce the risk of unexpected fires.
