The United States of America will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026. To honor this milestone and its proclaimed ideals, the Civic Thought and Leadership Initiative (CTLI) at the Center for Constitutional Studies at UVU (CCS) is partnering with America250–Utah.
Goals of the partnership
The collaboration aims to focus on building community, strengthening love for the country and its ideals, and reflecting on history to help shape a better future.
Planned educational video series
The celebration includes several planned activities. A five-part series titled Master Classes: The Declaration will feature 15-minute episodes that examine specific historical pieces or ideas that animate the document and demonstrate its ongoing vitality.
Community reading initiative details
Additionally, the UT Together: Reading 1776 initiative invites participation in marking the anniversary through McCullough's 1776, which highlights values involved in the struggle for independence. Reading lists are available for both adults and K–12 students to supplement this reading.
Resources for educators and families
Resources are also being provided for teachers and families. These include classroom-ready examples of primary source documents that reflect the heritage and influence of the Declaration, as well as information regarding how key figures spoke and acted concerning the document throughout American history.
