Extreme drought conditions are currently affecting all 21,403 people in Carbon County. According to recent data from the U.S. Drought Portal, 100% of the county is under the impact of drought, a status that has shown no change since last week or last month.
The period from January through April 2026 ranks as the 32nd driest year on record over the past 132 years, showing a decrease of 1.66 inches from normal levels.
Despite this dry trend for the year, the month of April was recorded as the 25th wettest April in 132 years, with precipitation measuring 0.61 inches above normal.
The U.S. Drought Monitor classifies the current situation in Carbon County as Extreme Drought (D3). This classification is part of a monitoring effort by the National Drought Mitigation Center, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
