Eric Weddle, a former Utah football alumnus and Super Bowl LVI champion, has been selected as the 2026 inductee for the University of Utah football Ring of Honor. The university announced that Weddle will be honored during the home game against Arkansas scheduled for September 12 at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Established in 2024, the Ring of Honor recognizes players and coaches who have achieved significant honors in college football, professional leagues, and the community. Inductees have their names displayed on the press box of Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Weddle played for the Utes from 2003 to 2006, appearing under head coaches Urban Meyer and Kyle Whittingham. During his collegiate career, he was a consensus first-team All-American in 2006 and earned Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year honors in both 2005 and 2006.
His statistical contributions include holding the Utah program record for career forced fumbles with nine and ranking second all-time in interceptions with 18. He also recorded 277 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks over his four seasons. Beyond defense, Weddle served as a return specialist and offensive contributor, scoring eight touchdowns in 2006.
Following his time at Utah, Weddle played 14 seasons in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers, Baltimore Ravens, and Los Angeles Rams. His professional achievements include being a six-time Pro Bowl selection and winning Super Bowl LVI.
Weddle is also a member of the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame class and was previously inducted into the Utah Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022. He currently serves as the head football coach at Rancho Bernardo High School in Poway, California.
Other recent inductees to the Ring of Honor include Ron McBride and Roy Jefferson for 2025, and Alex Smith for 2024.
