State Route 3/1 in the Huntington Canyon area has officially reopened to traffic following a temporary closure caused by flooding and roadway debris, Emery County officials announced Friday evening.
Roadway Reopens After Closure
The reopening was confirmed by Emery County at 8:30 p.m. on July 16, 2026, after the roadway had been obstructed by environmental hazards. The update followed an earlier alert regarding the impassable conditions in the canyon.
According to a post from Emery County, the road was initially reported closed during the afternoon of July 16. Officials noted that the closure occurred specifically in the area of milepost 29 within Huntington Canyon.
Flooding and Debris Obstructions
The initial closure was prompted by the presence of flooding and debris on the roadway. At 3:00 p.m. on July 16, Emery County advised the public that they had been notified of the hazards at milepost 29.
During the period when the road was impassable, the county stated it would continue to provide updates as soon as the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) officially reopened the route to travelers.
Safety Advisory for Travelers
Following the clearance of the roadway, Emery County issued a final update at 8:30 p.m. stating that SR31 is open. Officials concluded their advisory with a reminder for motorists to travel safely through the canyon area.
