The Lehi Pioneers overcame significant challenges to win the 6A state volleyball title match against Bingham. Entering the match, Bingham was the defending state champion and held the top spot in the Class 6A RPI rankings until Lehi overtook them on the final list.
The championship match featured two highly successful programs, as both teams were region champions and had only lost two matches all season. While Bingham won the first set with an ace and two hits, the Pioneers responded in the second set. After trailing early in the second set, Lehi led by as many as six points before Bingham tied the score at 17, 18, and 19. The Pioneers eventually secured the second set through kills from three different hitters.
The third set saw Bingham take an early lead and utilize a kill and a block to win the set, putting Lehi in a position where they faced elimination. However, the Pioneers responded with a nine-point scoring streak in the middle of the game, leading to a win by 12 points.
Lehi concluded the match with a victory in the short-point tiebreaker, scoring four consecutive points consisting of a kill, block, kill, and ace. Following the championship, players noted that their connection and team chemistry were central to their success. The team demonstrated solidarity through unique gestures, such as tinting parts of their hair purple and attempting to grow mustaches.
