The Salt Lake City Council has appointed Jennifer Napier-Pearce to represent District 4, which encompasses the Downtown area. Following several rounds of voting, Napier-Pearce was sworn into office immediately after her selection.
Council's selection process
Council Chair Alejandro “Ale” Puy stated that the appointment followed a thoughtful and deliberative process. He expressed gratitude to all applicants for their willingness to serve and noted the council looks forward to the new member's contributions.
Details of the term duration
Napier-Pearce will serve as the representative for District 4 for the remainder of the term, which is scheduled to conclude on January 3, 2028. The seat for District 4 will also be featured on the ballot during the 2027 Municipal elections.
Role of the City Council
The Salt Lake City Council serves as the seven-member legislative branch for Utah's capital city. In addition to setting policy and allocating resources through budgets and ordinances, the Council acts as the Board of Directors for the Local Building Authority, the Board of Canvassers, and Salt Lake City’s Community Reinvestment Agency.
