Arizona is experiencing an ongoing measles outbreak along the Arizona-Utah border. The outbreak has been active since August of 2025, according to an undated notice on the Arizona Department of Health Services website.
In 2026, Arizona has recorded 122 total measles cases. According to data from the Arizona Department of Health Services, these cases are distributed across several counties, including 69 cases in Mohave County, 27 in Maricopa County, 18 in Pinal County, 4 in Coconino County, 3 in Pima County, and 1 in Yavapai County.
To provide additional surveillance, the Arizona Department of Health Services is currently testing wastewater for measles at select sites. This data is provided to county health departments to help determine if public health action is warranted.
Measles is a highly contagious rash illness caused by the measles virus. The disease typically begins with a fever, runny nose, and cough, followed by a rash that spreads from the face and upper neck down the body.
