The Utah Division of Water Resources maintained records regarding Great Salt Lake elevation as part of its mission to plan, conserve, develop, and protect Utah's water resources.

Additional agency functions included overseeing drought contingency plans, reservoir levels, snowpack water reports, and the State Water Plan 2021. The division also addressed topics such as agricultural water optimization, cloud seeding, and dam safety.
