Wildfires and brush fires have impacted multiple Utah counties over the past month, causing property destruction in Farr West, evacuations near Zion National Park, and significant traffic disruptions on Interstate 80. Recent incidents range from a 1,000-acre blaze in Millard County to small grass fires contained along Parleys Canyon.
Property Destruction in Weber County
A wind-fueled brush fire destroyed a house and an outbuilding in Farr West approximately three weeks ago. The Weber Fire District reported receiving the call regarding the blaze, which resulted in the primary structure being considered a total loss.
Remote Controlled Airplane Sparks Fire
In Weber County, a wildfire known as the 8800 West Fire burned approximately 50 acres west of Plain City. According to fire officials, the blaze was sparked by a remote-controlled airplane. This incident occurred roughly one month ago.
Wildfires in Tooele County
Recent activity in Toelle County included several distinct fire incidents. One month ago, a fire started west of Stockton, burning more than 200 acres in a private area above South Mountain Road; crews from the North Toole Fire District were dispatched to the scene.
One week ago, a new wildfire known as the Stookey Fire ignited east of Vernon in Tooele County. The fire prompted responses from multiple local, state, and federal agencies.
Interstate 80 Traffic Disruptions
Traffic on Interstate 80 faced recent disruptions due to two separate fire incidents. Approximately two weeks ago, a small one-acre brush fire in Summit County disrupted both railroad operations and traffic on I-80.
Additionally, three days ago, crews contained a brush fire that burned half an acre of land along eastbound I-80 in Parleys Canyon. Officials noted the fire ignited specifically in the grass near the highway.
Evacuations Near Residential Areas
Evacuations have been a recurring necessity during recent fire activity. Two weeks ago, a brush fire near East Mountain Wilderness Park in Kaysville prompted evacuations as firefighters worked to protect nearby residential areas.
In the Weber State Davis campus area, several homes were evacuated two weeks ago after a brush fire ignited in a field situated between the Ridgewood Estates Manufactured Home Community and the university campus. The fire resulted in the destruction of one home and damage to several others.
Zion National Park and Provo Fires
In southern Utah, evacuation warnings were issued three days ago after a brush fire ignited near Zion National Park. The Mesa Fire was mapped at 6 acres within the Kolob Terrace Road area and posed a threat to the surrounding environment.
Further north, approximately two weeks ago, a large brush fire ignited above Slate Canyon in Provo, located south of Y Mountain and north of the site where the Buckley Fire occurred in 2025. Crews from the Provo Fire Department responded to the incident.
Additional Utah Fire Incidents
Other notable fire incidents include a 1,000-acre wildfire in Millard County known as the Wild Horse Fire, which burned with no containment two months ago.
In West Valley City, one month ago, a fire destroyed a backyard shed and spread to a nearby garage and fence, displacing seven adults. Additionally, a brush fire in the Lakeshore Drive area of Lakepoint threatened more than a dozen homes three weeks ago, though the North Tooele Fire District reported that no homes sustained damage.
