The Cottonwood baseball program has hired George Sherrill as its new head coach. Sherrill, a former Major League Baseball player and All-Star, joins the program after serving as an assistant coach for the Colts last season.
Cottonwood athletic director James MacIntyre offered the position to Sherrill, who accepted. MacIntyre stated that Sherrill's familiarity with the players and the community will help provide continuity for the program's future.
Sherrill previously played for the Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, and Kansas City Royals. He joins the coaching staff following the offseason departure of head coach Travis Steed, who had served in the role for two years. The Colts' recent postseason history includes a state tournament appearance during the first season under Steed, though the team missed the postseason during the 2025-26 season.
Sherrill has emphasized the importance of hard work, requiring incoming players to participate in a Hell Week that took place Aug. 3-7. The program competes in Class 4A, a division that spans from the northern parts of the state to St. George.
