Weber State men's basketball saw all five starters finish in double digits during a 96-74 exhibition victory over visiting Westminster University on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, at the Dee Events Center in Ogden.
Junior wing and Georgia Tech transfer Dyllan Thompson led the Wildcats with 18 points and seven rebounds, including hitting four of seven from the 3-point line.
The game featured several shifts in momentum, including a halftime lead for the Salt Lake City-based Division II Griffins. Westminster, led by former Layton Christian Academy coach Casey Stanley, held a 45-43 advantage two minutes into the second half through a 3-point hit from former Utah prep player of the year Quentin Meza.
Weber State responded with a 15-4 run to take a 58-49 lead, fueled by a 10-point scoring burst from Thompson in 90 seconds. Other notable WSU contributors included sophomore Mason Abittan, who totaled 17 points, six rebounds, and four assists, and sophomore center Augustine Ekwe, who added 15 points and nine rebounds.
Freshman Gavin Lowe, another former Utah prep player of the year, earned his first unofficial college action starting at point guard. Lowe recorded 12 points, seven assists, three steals, and one turnover, finishing with a plus-37 rating in 27 minutes, according to head coach Kaleb Canales.
The Wildcats' offensive success was highlighted by a 10-for-23 performance from the 3-point line and 19 total assists. However, the game was marked by a knee injury to junior guard and Utah transfer Alvin Jackson III, who left the game after a collision. Coach Canales stated that Jackson iced the knee and they are awaiting further information from the training team.
Additionally, sophomore ArDarius Grayson sat out the exhibition due to team rules.
This was the second of three exhibitions Weber State is playing against Division II teams from the RMAC, following a previous win over Colorado Christian. The Wildcats are scheduled to host Colorado Mesa at 6 p.m. on Wednesday before opening the season on Monday, Nov. 2, at Oregon State.
