Sister Kristin M. Yee, second counselor in the Relief Society general presidency, spoke to young single adults about finding divine belonging, purpose, and peace during the Utah Area Young Single Adult Conference in Salt Lake City. In a report published August 16, Yee addressed the audience on Saturday, Aug. 15, stating that the Lord has a great interest in the lives and decisions of the attendees.
During her keynote address, Yee discussed identity, noting that being a young single adult is a demographic term rather than a defining characteristic. She encouraged individuals to anchor themselves to identifiers such as being a child of God, a child of the covenant, and a disciple of Jesus Christ. Yee stated that those living their covenants are following the primary plan of God regardless of age or marital status.
Addressing the concept of belonging, Yee spoke about the importance of being of one heart and one mind. She shared her personal experience of receiving callings while attending different wards for families and young single adults, which helped her learn to trust in the Lord while helping others.
Regarding ministering, Yee described caring for others as a core part of her identity that reflects the example of Jesus Christ. She noted that the Savior is the embodiment of ministering and that following His example helps individuals learn to love and serve others.
Yee emphasized the importance of partnering with Jesus Christ to face life's challenges. She suggested that prioritizing a covenant relationship with God provides spiritual resilience and helps individuals avoid being easily affected by the perspectives of others.
She also shared a personal account of feeling God's love while at an airport, where she felt prompted to share messages with a delayed traveler. Additionally, Yee recounted a miracle involving her family history, where a researcher searching for her great-grandfather's village in China connected with a man from that same village who provided 93 generations of family tree data.
Yee concluded by encouraging attendees to trust in Jesus Christ rather than being distracted by worldly cares. She stated that Heavenly Father wants individuals to find happiness in the present, rather than waiting for future milestones such as a degree, career, or relationship.
