No. 11 Utah secured a 27-24 victory over Colorado on October 16 at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado. The win extended the Utes' winning streak to 12 games, which is the longest active streak in FBS.
The Utah offense opened the game with a touchdown drive, capped by an eight-yard touchdown pass from Dampier to tight end Hunter Andrews. Andrews also recorded three carries for 26 rushing yards, both of which were season-bests. During the second quarter, Utah orchestrated a 17-play drive lasting 8:35, marking the season's longest drive in both time and plays. Quarterback Byrd Ficklin recorded career-highs with three receptions for 13 yards. Wide receiver Creed Whittemore also achieved a career-best 88 receiving yards, including a 43-yard catch from Dampier. Braden Pegan matched career highs with eight receptions and two touchdown catches, the latter coming from Dampier in the fourth quarter. Freshman left guard Kelvin Obot made his third consecutive start.
Defensively, Utah held Colorado to a three-and-out on its opening drive. The defense maintained a shutout into halftime, matching a feat achieved earlier this season against Utah State. Safety Rabbit Evans recorded his second interception of the season and his fourth consecutive game with a pass defended. James Chenault also recorded an interception in the fourth quarter. Jackson Bennee led the team with five tackles and set a season-high with two pass breakups.
Special teams contributions included kicker Dillon Curtis connecting on 27 and 29-yard field goal attempts. Orion Phillips recorded his fourth punt of 50 yards or more and dropped a kick inside the 20 for the third consecutive game. Daniel Bray recorded a season-long 26-yard kick return during the third quarter.
The victory brings Utah's record against Colorado to 37-33-3. This was the first time Utah trailed during a game since Week 2 against Arkansas, when Colorado's third-quarter touchdown gave the Buffaloes a 14-13 lead.
Utah will next face No. 10 Houston at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Monday, October 19.
