The Utah Film Commission announced June 5, 2026, that the Utah Board of Tourism Development has approved five new productions for state film incentives, a move expected to generate an estimated $9.2 million in economic impact and create more than 400 jobs across five counties.
Recent film industry growth
The recent approvals follow a period of significant growth for the state's film industry. In April, the commission announced five additional productions that were projected to bring $69.5 million in economic impact and create over 1,000 jobs across six counties. Those projects included Season 2 of the CBS series "Marshals," which producers from Paramount Television Studios said utilized Utah's diverse landscapes.
Previous production approvals
Earlier this year, the commission also approved three productions in February that were estimated to generate $11.3 million in economic impact. This group included the seventh season of "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City," as well as the series "The Chosen," which returned to film in the Goshen area.
Pioneer Park reconstruction project
While the film industry expands, Salt Lake City is navigating the challenges of urban renewal at Pioneer Park. The city is moving forward with a nearly $18 million reconstruction project intended to transform the historic downtown space into a safer, more accessible destination through late 2026.
Park amenities and safety concerns
The project includes new amenities such as a pavilion, a dog park, and updated pickleball courts. However, some residents have expressed safety concerns regarding the Rio Grande District. As reported by The Daily Utah Chronicle, some community members have cited issues with crime and sanitation in the area.
Local school district updates
In local education, Payson High School announced it is hiring two new members for its lunchroom crew to support student dining. Additionally, the Nebo School District noted that registration for the 2026-27 school year has opened to families.
