Attendance rates at Box Elder High School have shown improvement compared to the previous year, according to school data. While some students cited school pressures and workloads as reasons for skipping class, administrators noted a decrease in chronic absenteeism among specific grade levels.
Data provided by Clark Funk indicated that chronic absenteeism among 11th graders dropped from 36% last year to 33% this year. Similarly, chronic absenteeism for 12th graders decreased from 24% to 20% during the same period. A student is considered chronically absent if they miss 10% or more of the school days.
In addition to attendance updates, the school has introduced several initiatives. The Anonymous Angels program has been spreading words of affirmation and optimistic quotes throughout the school to boost morale. Additionally, the Box Elder School District Drivers Education program is transitioning to an online platform for registration, payment, and communication.
Box Elder High School's athletic programs also reached significant milestones. The school has become the sixth high school in Utah to reach 1,000 total games, joining Ogden, Davis, West, East, and Jordan. The school maintains a 130-year legacy and several long-standing traditions, including the Valley Cup and the County Shield.
Other school activities include summer school opportunities for credit recovery or advancement, student government planning events such as homecoming week, and various sales hosted by the cafeteria and school greenhouse.
