Northrop Grumman recently held a groundbreaking event for a new structure called Legacy Building at its Roy Innovation Center, or RIC, in Utah. Construction of the building is scheduled to begin this summer and is expected to reach completion by 2028.
The facility will be part of the company's efforts to advance the U.S. Air Force’s Sentinel Intercontinental Ballistic Missile program.
The Roy Innovation Center focuses on various aerospace and defense missions, including the Sentinel ICBM program. The Legacy Building is intended to expand Northrop Grumman's contributions to the Sentinel program, which the company aims to bring to initial capability by early 2030.
Ben Davies, corporate vice president and president of Northrop Grumman Defense Systems, stated that Utah's strategic location near Hill Air Force Base, its supportive community, and its world-class talent pool make it an ideal location for the expansion of Sentinel and other critical missions supported from the site.
Over the past five years, Northrop Grumman has invested $13.5 billion in infrastructure and R&D, which includes $2 billion dedicated to solid rocket motor capacity and capabilities for the Sentinel program.
The company has also engaged in other facility expansions recently, such as opening the Enhanced Production and Integration Center in Madison, Alabama, in April 2025, and announcing a new Propulsion Innovation Center in Elkton, Maryland.
