Corey Doolan has stepped into his first head coaching role at Ogden High, aiming to build upon the school's traditions through a focus on physicality and defense. Doolan, who previously served as an assistant at both Ogden and Weber High, said the position was the only head coaching job he felt made sense to apply for.
The Tigers enter a new era following the departure of former head coach Trent Porter, who became the athletic director at Bonneville. Doolan inherits a roster featuring six returning seniors, including Anderson Curry, Dallin Eliason, and Briggs Galbraith. Additionally, Ryan Kirkland, Blake Weston, and Nash Bockwoldt are expected to provide size in the paint.
Kirkland, who averaged 9.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game during his junior season, is expected to help fill the void left by former All-Area forward Jackson Maw. Doolan noted that his coaching style will involve reducing the number of sets run each night to allow for a more free-flowing offense that includes more three-point shooting.
Ogden's defensive identity remains a priority as they prepare for a challenging Region 12, which includes back-to-back 3A state champion Morgan. Last season, the Tigers held opponents to an average of 55.5 points per game and recorded 17.6 defensive boards and 8.2 steals per contest. Doolan expressed an intention to maintain the defensive principles established during the previous coaching tenure while adding his own tactical approach.
Ogden High is coming off a 15-11 finish last season, marking their best record in two years. Since moving to the 3A classification in 2021, the Tigers have achieved winning seasons in 2023-24 and 2025-26. The program's last state semifinal appearance occurred during the 2023-24 season against Judge Memorial.
Team tryouts are scheduled to begin on Monday, with Doolan expecting his final roster to consist of approximately 28 to 30 players. The Tigers' season opener is scheduled for Nov. 14 against Clearfield.
