The Lakeview School Community Council held a meeting on Friday, October 16, 2026, to discuss school performance, upcoming meetings, and educational goals, according to minutes published November 5.
During the meeting, Courtney Nichols was nominated as Chair and Hunter Kimball was nominated as Co-Chair. The council reviewed the Lakeview School Report Card, which is available on the Utah State Board of Education website via the Data Gateway.
According to the report, Lakeview increased in achievement and growth across all three areas. The school scored above the district and state averages in all three achievement areas. In terms of growth, Lakeview reported one of the highest growth percentages in the state. This was attributed to student-led goals, group teacher efficacy, and Pokémon card incentives.
Specific data noted that English Learners making adequate growth increased by 36%, representing about two-thirds of English Learners. Additionally, Early Literacy testing through Acadience for grades K-3rd reached 79.7% growth, nearly meeting a goal of 80%.
The council also discussed the Parent University held at Shoreline on October 15, where Provo Reads led classes on helping children learn to read and provided free books.
Regarding future goals, the School Improvement Plan includes targets for ELA to increase from 53% to 58%, MA from 58% to 62%, and Science from 56% to 60%.
Discussion regarding the Trust Lands Plan noted that funding was cut a few years ago, and funds are now generally used for IXL subscriptions and aides for school and classroom support. The council discussed the possibility of submitting a video for the Trust Lands Administration 2026 Fall Video Contest, which has a $2,500 prize and a November deadline.
The council is considering various ways to support learning, including investigating Mission IO, a science learning program piloted several years ago. School administration will consult with teachers regarding the need for additional materials.
Upcoming meetings are scheduled for November 11th, December 9th, January 13th, February 10th, March 10th, April 14th, and May 12th, all at 8:30 am.
