The Utah Department of Transportation has announced several active and upcoming construction projects across the region, including nightly repaving on I-8 to Mountain Dell and daytime lane closures near the SR-36 interchange in Tooele County. These projects aim to extend roadway life and improve infrastructure through 2028.

UDOT is currently repaving Interstate 80 from State Route 65 near Mountain Dell to Lambs Canyon. This project, which began in May 2026, is expected to continue through August 2026 to provide a smoother driving surface.

Drivers traveling through the Mountain Dell to Lambs Canyon corridor should prepare for nightly lane closures between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. while crews complete the paving work.
Tooele County Lane Closures
In Tooele County, daytime lane closures are affecting the area near the SR-36 and I-80 interchange. According to UDOT, westbound I-80 will be reduced to two lanes before the SR-3ly on-ramp from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Friday, July 17.

Eastbound I-80 drivers face further restrictions as crews remove barriers between the SR-36 on-ramp and the SR-201 off-ramp. These eastbound closures are scheduled from Thursday, July 16, through Saturday, July 18, reducing traffic to one lane between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The SR-36 improvement project has reached a significant milestone, with all three lanes now open on SR-36. This follows earlier work that began in June 2025 to improve intersections and resurface the roadway between I-80 and Stansbury Parkway.

While full capacity has been restored to SR-36, UDOT noted that occasional temporary lane closures may still occur as crews finalize the remaining project work. The long-term plan for this area includes adding an auxiliary lane to eastbound I-80 from SR-36 to the SR-201 exit.
Future Bridge Replacements
Looking further ahead, UDOT is planning major infrastructure replacements in Parleys Canyon. The agency is currently in the design phase for a project that will replace aging decks and rehabilitate seven bridges within Salt Lake County.
