WM has provided updated service guidelines for 2026 regarding trash and recycling collection. The instructions detail weekly trash pickup, bi-weekly recycling collection, and specific requirements for curb placement to ensure efficient service.
According to the service guidelines, residents should place trash and recycling carts at the curb by 6 a.m. with wheels facing the curb. Carts must be placed at least 3 feet away from objects such as trees, mailboxes, cars, and other carts.
To ensure collection, all materials must fit inside the carts with lids fully closed. The guidelines state that cardboard boxes should be broken down and flattened to conserve space. WM noted that excess materials left next to or on top of the carts will not be collected.
The service guidelines include specific instructions for waste types. For trash, residents are encouraged to bag and secure items, including yard waste, to prevent litter from falling out during service, particularly on windy days.
For recycling, the instructions state that materials should be kept loose rather than bagged. Accepted items include metal food and beverage cans, plastic bottles, paper, and flattened cardboard or paperboard. Materials such as glass bottles, plastic bags, foam containers, electronics, textiles, and hazardous waste are not accepted in curbside recycling.
Regarding holiday schedules, service may be delayed by one day if a collection day falls on or after an observed holiday. Residents can confirm their specific collection days and holiday week schedules by entering their address at wm.com. Weather alerts can also be monitored through the WM website.
