The Utah Department of Transportation announced updates for Utah County-area drivers on Thursday, Oct. 29, regarding upcoming I-15 lane closures in Lehi and the seasonal closure of SR-92 in American Fork Canyon. The Alpine Loop closure is scheduled to begin Monday, Nov. 2, marking the first seasonal winter road closure of the year.
Crews will begin closing lanes on southbound I-15 at 2100 North (Exit 282) on Thursday, Oct. 29, and Friday, Oct. 30. Lane closures are scheduled to start at 7 p.m., with traffic reduced to one lane by midnight and all lanes reopening by 4 a.m. the following morning.
During these closures, crews will shift southbound I-15 traffic to establish a new traffic pattern through the interchange. Drivers in both directions of I-15 should expect this new configuration to remain in place through May 2027.
The shift in traffic patterns is intended to provide room for crews to relocate utilities, build a stabilizing soil wall, and begin foundation work for a new interchange as part of the 2100 North project. This project, scheduled for completion in late 2028, will add a 2.8-mile freeway connection between the Mountain View Corridor and I-15, build a new I-15 interchange, and improve pedestrian and bike connections in the area.
Additionally, drivers should expect overnight lane closures in both directions of I-15 at 2100 North through next week. Crews will work in one direction each night, starting closures at 7 p.m. and reducing traffic to one lane by midnight to prepare for future overhead sign installation.
The Alpine Loop (SR-92) will close for the winter on Monday, Nov. 2, at 7 a.m. The closure covers the mountain section between Pine Hollow in American Fork Canyon and Aspen Grove above Sundance. This will prevent travel between American Fork Canyon and Provo Canyon using the Alpine Loop.
UDOT closes several high-elevation roads each winter to maintain safety when heavy snow and changing conditions make travel hazardous. These roads remain closed through the winter, with reopening dates depending on weather, snowpack, and maintenance needs. Drivers can still reach Sundance via Provo Canyon and Tibble Fork Reservoir via American Fork Canyon, depending on weather and road conditions.
Construction schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change. Drivers can check the UDOT Traffic website or use the UDOT Traffic app for the latest updates and current conditions.
