The University of Utah has begun a process to explore a major renovation of the Jon M. Huntsman Center and is inviting input through an online survey.
Utah has chosen Populous and VCBO Architecture to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study to explore modernization options, assessing structural integrity, seismic resiliency, and infrastructure. The study is part of updates to U President Taylor Randall’s vision for ‘College Town Magic,’ which includes the Huntsman Center as a focal point. A wide range of stakeholders, including fans and donors, will receive an email with a secure online survey beginning Tuesday, June 30, to provide feedback on arena access, seating, entertainment, technology, concessions, restrooms, and parking. Responses will be accepted through July 14. The Jon M. Huntsman Center, opened in 1969 as the University of Utah Special Events Center, hosts men’s and women’s basketball, gymnastics, volleyball, NCAA Championship events, and other community events. It has been a landmark on the campus for over 50 years and has hosted the 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City.
The renovation process aims to transform the historic facility to better serve fans, teams, and the community.
