The Utah Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that two Interstate 15 off-ramps in Utah County will close this weekend to facilitate utility work and paving projects. The closures will affect motorists in Lehi and Orem, impacting several local roads through Monday morning.
Lehi Utility Work Closures
In Lehi, the southbound I-15 off-ramp to 2100 North (Exit 282) is scheduled to close starting Friday, July 31, at 10 p.m. According to the Utah Department of Transportation, the ramp will remain closed for utility work until Monday, Aug. 3, at 5 a.m. During this period, a short segment of Thanksgiving Way, which runs parallel to Exit 282, will also be closed to traffic.
Long-term Infrastructure Goals
The utility work in Lehi is part of the ongoing 2100 North project. This initiative involves the construction of 2.8 miles of new freeway between 2100 North (SR-194) and Interstate 15. Once completed, the project will establish a freeway-to-freeway connection between I-15 and the Mountain View Corridor. Officials state this connection is designed to provide more options for east-west travel and is intended to reduce congestion on 2100 North.
Pedestrian and Cyclist Improvements
Beyond vehicular traffic improvements, the 2100 North project aims to enhance active transportation options in the area. The Utah Department of Transportation's plans include the construction of two new pedestrian bridges and nearly two miles of shared-use paths. Additionally, crews are expected to realign and rebuild two miles of existing trails to improve access for both pedestrians and cyclists. The entire project is estimated to conclude in late 2028.
Orem Paving Schedule
In Orem, the Interstate 15 off-ramps to Center Street (Exit 271) will undergo paving this weekend. The closure is scheduled to begin on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 9 p.m. and is expected to last until Monday, Aug. 3, at 5 a.m. In addition to the ramp closures, Center Street will be closed for paving between Geneva Road and 800 West during this same timeframe.
