A new beginner country dance class has arrived in the heart of Lehi. Established by Mary Woffinden, Kick’N Country Swing is designed with a focus on learning and has already gained popularity among residents throughout the city.
Woffinden, who has been country dancing since 1985, started the lessons three months ago. Her teaching approach prioritizes the most basic levels of country swing rather than fusion-based styles to ensure student success.
The classes are structured to teach fundamental elements including handhold position, framework, footwork, and essential dos and don’ts. Each session concludes with a basic country line dance.
Woffinden encourages students to frequently change partners during class to improve their ability to lead and follow, as well as to provide opportunities for social connection. While beginners can progress to intermediate classes once confident, Woffinden invites dancers of all levels to participate.
The program has seen particular success with participants in the 30-70 age range. Woffinden noted that many students are grateful to learn moves beyond the limited repertoire they previously utilized.
In addition to group lessons, Woffinden offers private lessons for individuals and couples. No dance partner is required to join the group classes.
Looking ahead, Woffinden intends to expand her offerings to include family country nights and a camp for teens. Individual class pricing is $15, while couples can attend for $25.
