MEDIC SOLO will bring specialized first aid training to Ogden residents through upcoming courses at Weber State University. According to a October 11 report, the Charlottesville, Virginia-based organization will host Disaster+Travel+Wilderness First Aid (dtWFA) courses on Nov. 7-8 and May 22-23, 2027.
The two-day courses consist of approximately 16 hours of classroom instruction and field practice. Participants will learn how to manage emergencies when professional medical assistance is delayed or unavailable due to location, natural disasters, or other crises. Upon completing the training, students will receive a SOLO 2-year Wilderness First Aid certification.
The curriculum is designed to provide a framework for managing patients over extended periods before emergency medical services arrive. Deanna Yurchuk, the creative marketing director for MEDIC SOLO, noted that the classes differ from basic first aid by breaking down the many steps necessary to assist someone in a long-term emergency situation. The courses are open to anyone aged 13 and older with no other prerequisites.
While MEDIC SOLO primarily serves the Virginia and D.C. areas, a move by one of its instructors to Utah has expanded its reach. The instructor, who is a professor at Weber State University, has enabled the company to offer these courses at the university. While similar classes have been held previously in Eden for private entities, these upcoming dtWFA sessions are open to the public.
