Utah is not involved in the latest lettuce recall, though health officials are closely monitoring the situation as reports of illness grow in the Midwest. Taylor Farms has voluntarily recalled iceberg lettuce originating from central Mexico because of potential contamination.
The recall follows reports of Cyclospora linked to the lettuce. This parasite can cause symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, stomach pain, weight loss, and diarrhea.
While the suspected contaminated lettuce was distributed in various parts of the country, Utah is not among the states that received shipments between June 29 and July 16. Most reported illnesses have occurred in Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan.
Officials stated that anyone who purchased the recalled shredded iceberg lettuce should throw it away. Full refunds are available for customers in 27 states, including AL, AR, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MO, MS, NC, NH, NJ, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, and WI.
