The Indian Health Service Office of Human Resources has launched a new Enterprise New Employee Orientation program. According to information on the agency's website, this virtual session is designed to provide new hires with a comprehensive introduction to the agency.
The orientation is hosted via Microsoft Teams and typically lasts three hours. During the session, human resources information regarding retirement, leave, and health benefits is presented to new employees. A Teams link is sent directly to new employees by HR.
Sessions are routinely scheduled for the first Monday of each new pay period from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm eastern. If the first Monday of a pay period falls on a holiday, the orientation is conducted on Tuesday.
The IHS-wide orientation is intended to replace individual Service Unit or Facility level HR trainings as many Service Units will no longer have dedicated local HR support. While the agency encourages leaders to include area-specific content relevant to their specific units, the enterprise session serves as the primary replacement.
Leaders may choose to stream the live event in a conference room for group viewing, as individual computers are not required for employees to participate. Direct interaction with speakers is not necessary during the event, though contact information is provided for follow-up questions.
Current IHS staff may access recorded sessions and onboarding materials through the HR Training Center's NEO page on SharePoint, which requires VPN access.
