Bishop Oscar A. Solis of Salt Lake City issued a message to students, teachers, parents, and staff at the start of the 2026-27 school year. He expressed hope and excitement for the new year, describing it as an opportunity to grow in wisdom and draw closer to Jesus Christ.
The Bishop encouraged students to study for life rather than just for school. He urged them to strive for virtues such as honesty, kindness, perseverance, humility, generosity, and respect for others, particularly those who feel excluded or discouraged.
Solis also addressed the role of parents and educators. He identified parents as the primary teachers of faith and noted that their sacrifices for Catholic education nurture both the intellect and the soul. He also credited teachers and principals as co-partners in the Church's mission of evangelization.
The message concluded with a prayer for students, teachers, administrators, staff, and families to grow in faith, wisdom, and love. The Bishop asked for blessings through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Seat of Wisdom, for a safe and fruitful school year.
