The Utah Transit Authority launched expanded On Demand microtransit service in northern Utah County on Aug. 16, 2026, as part of its Fall Change Day operations. This expansion, which began earlier this month, aims to increase transit flexibility in one of the state's fastest-growing regions.
The new On Demand service area covers a 77-square-mile zone and serves portions of Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs, Lehi, American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Lindon, Highland, Cedar Hills, and Alpine. According to the Utah Transit Authority, the service is sponsored by Utah County and the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT).
Jay Fox, the executive director of UTA, stated that northern Utah County is one of the fastest-growing areas in the state and noted that the new service is an important step in ensuring transportation options keep pace with that growth. Fox said the On Demand service will give residents more flexibility to connect with FrontRunner, other UTA services, and key destinations throughout the area.
The microtransit service is designed to improve first- and last-mile connections by linking riders to TRAX, FrontRunner, bus routes, and other major destinations. Key destinations included in the new north Utah County zone are the Lehi FrontRunner Station, the American Fork FrontRunner Station, Primary Children's Hospital - Lehi, and Saratoga Springs Emergency.
Other specific locations served by the new zone include the Eagle Mountain Senior Center, Lehi Junior High, Vista Heights Middle School, Lake Mountain Middle School, and American Fork Junior High. Riders can book trips through the UTA On Demand app, which is available on the App Store and Google Play Store.
In addition to the On Demand expansion, the Utah Transit Authority announced that the Ogden Express (OGX) bus rapid transit route will remain a zero-fare service until Spring Change Day 2028. This extension is made possible by federal operating assistance secured through a partnership between Ogden City, the Wasatch Front Regional Council, and UTA.
Route and Schedule Adjustments
The Fall Change Day, which occurred on Aug. 16, 2026, also included several other route realignments and schedule adjustments intended to improve service efficiency and accuracy. For example, Route 470 was extended to Salt Lake Central to provide additional service and better connections, and Route 472 was extended to 17th Street/Wall Avenue for the same purpose.
Other adjustments included a permanent intermediate detour for Route 54 using the north entrance of Murray Central Station, and the return of Route 205 to its regular route on 600 North and 700 North. UTA noted that these changes are part of a systemwide effort to improve quality of life by increasing transit access and restoring service where it was previously reduced.
Annual Change Day Cycle
The UTA Change Day schedule occurs three times each year to adjust routes, schedules, and services. The 2026 schedule included a Spring Change Day on April 12, which featured the launch of MVX and changes to the fares system. The upcoming Winter Change Day is scheduled for Dec. 6, 2026, which will see the discontinuation of Route 667 and the beginning of Ski Bus service.
Public comment on proposed changes for 2027 service and fares is scheduled to be open from Aug. 10 through Sept. 9. UTA is inviting the public to submit comments and register for a virtual public meeting regarding these future changes.
