Layton City, Clearfield City, and Davis County have filed a joint application for the 2026 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant to fund various technology and equipment upgrades, according to a November 2 public notice. The application seeks a total of $31,374.00 to support regional training assets and officer safety needs across the jurisdictions.
The requested funds are scheduled to be utilized during a grant period lasting from Oct. 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2028. Under the proposal, Layton City is slated to receive $16,142.00, Clearfield City is slated to receive $12,095.00, and the Davis County Attorney’s Office is slated to receive $3,137.00.
The Layton City Police plan to use their portion of the funds to purchase modular walls to expand a current training system and a modular breeching door training unit. These additions are intended to enhance officer training and improve tactics while serving as a regional training asset.
Clearfield City Police intend to use their allocation to purchase three 40 MM less lethal launchers and four ballistic vests to increase less lethal options and address officer safety needs.
The Davis County Attorney’s Office plans to use its portion of the grant to purchase computer and television hardware, presentation equipment, and mobile device extraction software.
The total grant funding amount is based on a formula developed by the Department of Justice. Layton City Police have previously administered several joint application grants for the Davis County area.
