Salt Lake City recorded its first triple-digit temperature on Sunday, reaching 101 degrees. This arrival aligned with the seasonal average for the first triple-digit day, which is July 6.
Temperatures were expected to remain hot throughout the week as high pressure remained parked over the western United States, with highs reaching the mid- to upper 90s. While Monday was not expected to reach triple digits, a high of 97 degrees was forecasted alongside partly cloudy skies and a chance for isolated thunderstorms across northern and central Utah.
Thunderstorms were expected to develop during the afternoon and evening on both Monday and Tuesday. As a ridge settled directly over Utah during the upcoming weekend, highs in Salt Lake City were projected to reach approximately 103 degrees on both Saturday and Sunday.
Southern Utah was forecasted to experience even higher temperatures, with highs ranging from 105 to 109 degrees. Breezy conditions were expected to persist throughout the week, which increased the fire danger.
