Granite School District issued a report on October 13 outlining various upcoming community engagement initiatives and district updates. The communication included details regarding a calendar preference survey, an upcoming virtual town hall, and ongoing planning efforts involving demographic consulting.
The District Calendaring Committee is currently requesting input on the general structure of the 2028-2029 school calendar. A preference survey was scheduled to close at 5:00 PM on October 19.
Additionally, Superintendent Horsley is scheduled to host a Virtual Superintendent Town Hall on Tuesday, October 27, from 6:00–7:00 PM. The event will be broadcast live on the Granite School District Facebook Page to discuss district issues and answer questions.
The district has contracted with MGT, an independent K-12 demographic consulting firm, to support planning related to potential programming changes, boundary adjustments, and school closures caused by declining student enrollment. A Preliminary Community Input Survey was made available to gather perspectives before the planning process begins in earnest.
In a recent October Board of Education meeting, the board heard from Olympus Jr. High’s FACS Club regarding recent activities. The meeting included presentations on several topics, including staffing, learner-validated programs, course offerings, military leave, real estate practices and policies, capital and construction projects, and data concerning closed schools.
The district also issued a reminder regarding winter weather in the Salt Lake Valley. While snow storms are common, the district aims to keep schools open whenever possible, noting that start time delays and distance learning days are rare. Parents will receive notifications via text and email if delays or transitions to distance learning occur.
