The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is working to improve Pioneer Crossing, also known as State Route 145, to help reduce rush-hour congestion between I-15 and Redwood Road. The project involves building Flex Lanes, adding extra travel lanes, and making modifications to intersections.
Planned lane expansion details
Planned improvements for the Pioneer Crossing area include adding additional travel lanes in each direction between Mill Pond Road and I-15, which will provide a total of four travel lanes in each direction for that section. Additionally, an extra westbound lane will be added on Pioneer Crossing from Redwood Road to just west of Mountain View Corridor.
Intersection and signal upgrades
Intersection upgrades will feature the installation of a new traffic signal at Medical Drive, along with lengthening existing turn-lane pockets and installing additional turn lanes at existing intersections.
Current and near-term construction
Active construction is currently underway for restriping from Mill Pond Road to Riverside Drive. South side work scheduled for spring and summer 2026 includes storm drain and utility upgrades, curb and gutter replacements, and sections of new pavement.
Future Flex Lane installation
Upcoming construction planned for summer 2026 through late 2026 involves Flex Lanes installation. This phase includes opening additional lanes, installing overhead Flex Lane signals and signage, new road striping, and Flex Lanes signal integration.
Completed milestones and schedule
Project milestones completed include the removal of the center median in fall 2025 and north side storm drain and pavement work completed in spring 2026. Schedules remain subject to change based on material availability and weather conditions.
