The City of Taylorsville supports the Taylorsville Amateur Radio Club, also known as the Taylorsville HAMnet, to assist during emergency situations when traditional communications may be unavailable or overloaded. This group of FCC licensed volunteer radio operators provides communication support for both emergency and non-emergency preparedness efforts.
Club membership and training
The club consists of more than 60 licensed radio operators who participate in weekly on-air communication nets and monthly in-person training meetings. These members work to maintain skills and equipment to assist in situations deemed necessary by Taylorsville City officials.
Community involvement and events
In addition to emergency response, the group provides support for various community activities including Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), The Great Utah ShakeOut, the Taylorsville Dayzz Parade, and the Taylorsville 5K. Their involvement also extends to local and statewide races and the annual National Pony Express re-ride event.
Meeting schedules and frequencies
Weekly communication nets are held every Monday night at 8:30 p.m. on a linked repeater system using frequencies 146.740 (114.8 tone) or 448.100 (114.8 tone). Monthly in-person meetings take place at Taylorsville City Hall, located at 2600 W. Taylorsville Blvd., on the second Wednesday of each month starting at 6:30 p.m.
