A string of recent vehicle collisions across Utah has claimed multiple lives, including a motorcyclist killed in Cottonwood Heights on Friday and several drivers who were ejected during rollover crashes in Salt Lake and St. George.
Recent Motorcycle Fatalities
A motorcyclist died Friday afternoon following a collision at the intersection of Millrock Drive and 6200 South in Cottonwood Heights. A spokesperson for the department involved stated the crash occurred at approximately 1:45 p.m.
Regional Motorcycle Incidents
The intersection collision follows several other recent motorcycle-related incidents in the region. Approximately one month ago, a motorcyclist was killed in South Salt Lake after colliding with a Mazda CX-9 near 3300 South and 200 East, an event that closed the roadway for several hours.
In Kanab, a 45-year-old man from Gloucester, Massachusetts, died after his Yamaha motorcycle collided with a tour bus traveling on US-89. Additionally, a motorcyclist was hospitalized in critical condition following a crash on Interstate 15 in Draper, as first reported by the Utah Department of Transportation.
Herriman Fatality Identified
Authorities have also identified Salvador E. Garcia Cortez, 41, as the motorcyclist killed in a June 8 crash involving a semi-truck in Herriman. The collision took place on 12600 S., where both the motorcycle and the semi-truck were traveling westbound.
Ejection and Rollover Crashes
Several recent accidents involved occupants being thrown from their vehicles. The Utah Highway Patrol reported a driver was ejected during a rollover crash on Man of War Road in St. George approximately four months ago.
In South Salt Lake, one person was killed when a vehicle went up the northbound I-15 on-ramp from 3300 South, according to Lt. Brian Peterson of the Utah Highway Patrol. Other notable ejection incidents include a fatal rollover crash involving a sergeant with the Utah Department of Corrections in Salt Lake, as well as a motor home crash near mile marker 28 in Hurricane that ejected four people.
Additional Traffic Incidents
Other recent traffic-related incidents include a driver death in Midvale after striking the rear of a box truck on southbound I-15, and an incident in Fruit Heights where a driver struck a building during a medical emergency, according to the Kaysville Fire Department.
