Highland High has detailed the specific requirements for individuals wishing to volunteer within the school community. To maintain a safe and comfortable campus environment, the school follows policies and guidelines designed to protect students.
In accordance with Utah State law, the district requires a screening procedure for prospective volunteers. All individuals serving in an unsupervised capacity must complete a background check before they begin their service.
The school distinguishes between two types of volunteer roles based on supervision levels.
Supervised volunteers work with students under the strict supervision of district employees. These individuals, such as classroom or front office volunteers, must remain in the line of sight of a district employee and are never permitted to be alone with a student.
Unsupervised volunteers may work with students without being in the constant line of sight of district employees. This category includes those who tutor, coach, or chaperone field trips. These volunteers are required to complete a background check through the school district prior to volunteering.
The registration process for volunteers begins with an online application. Once the application is complete, unsupervised volunteers must schedule a one-time background check.
Background checks are conducted at the District Office located at 406 E 100 S. Volunteers must bring a valid photo ID to this appointment. Scheduling can be handled via the booking email or by contacting the volunteer coordinator.
