Utah Tech University introduced 19 new academic programs earlier this year, focusing on hands-on learning and preparing graduates for regional workforce demands. The expansion includes a variety of disciplines spanning from arts to STEM fields.
The university expanded its graduate offerings with a Master of Science in Genomics, which incorporates molecular biology, bioinformatics, and data science. This program features two pathways: Bioinformatics, focusing on computational analysis, and Functional Genomics, emphasizing laboratory-based research.
In the biotechnology sector, Utah Tech added a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology that integrates biology and chemistry coursework with internships. The university also introduced a Laboratory Quality Assurance and Quality Control Certificate designed for careers in regulated scientific and industrial laboratories.
New technological programs include a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Applied Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, as well as a Master of Artificial Intelligence. Additionally, the university added a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, a Certificate in Cybersecurity, and a Cybersecurity for Critical Infrastructure Certificate to prepare students for protecting essential systems like power plants and water systems.
The institution also introduced several programs focused on business and information technology. These include a Bachelor of Applied Studies in Information Technology, which features stackable credentials, and a dual program combining a Bachelor of Applied Studies in Accounting with a Master of Accountancy.
Marketing updates include the Small Business Marketing Communication Certificate and a Digital Marketing Certificate. For those interested in public service, a new Bachelor of Arts in Politics, Policy, and Law was added to teach students how to navigate local and global institutions.
The arts curriculum expanded with two new associate degrees in Dance and Music, alongside a Music Composition Certificate. For adult learners, the university introduced a Bachelor of Applied Practice in Individualized Studies, which allows for customized studies across disciplines.
Chris Guymon, Utah Tech’s interim provest and vice president of academic affairs, stated that as a comprehensive polytechnic institution, the university is committed to collaborating with community and industry leaders. Guymon said the university is confident these programs will provide meaningful hands-on learning and meet industry needs.
With over 300 academic programs, Utah Tech University provides learning experiences across humanities, arts, education, health sciences, business, and STEM through internships, research, and industry partnerships.
