Notre Dame is preparing for a challenging road trip to Provo, Utah, to face a physical BYU team, according to a report published October 12. Head coach Marcus Freeman is embracing the upcoming matchup, stating that playing in different locations and facing big games is a core part of the Notre Dame football experience.
During a press conference on Monday, Oct. 13, Freeman provided several injury updates regarding the Fighting Irish roster. Linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa has been officially removed from the injury report. Cornerback Leonard Moore remains listed as questionable, while defensive lineman Jason Onye has been upgraded to questionable status. Brauntae Johnson remains sidelined, with Freeman indicating a return is more likely to occur sometime in November.
The offensive line is expected to receive additional depth for the matchup against BYU. Matty Augustine is now listed as the backup right guard behind Sullivan Absher, who has recorded two impressive performances in consecutive weeks. Styles Prescod is also listed as the primary backup for both tackle positions.
Freeman emphasized that communication and execution will be vital against an aggressive BYU defense. He noted the importance of the offensive line recognizing defensive tendencies and adjusting to various looks. The coach also highlighted the consistency of the BYU coaching staff and their physical style of play.
To prepare for the higher elevation in Provo, Notre Dame is prioritizing hydration throughout the week. The team will also have access to oxygen on the sideline if players require it during the game.
Notre Dame is scheduled to play BYU on Oct. 17, 2026.
