More than 600 faithful gathered at the Skaggs Catholic Center on Aug. 1-2 to celebrate the diocesan Charismatic Renewal Family Congress.
The weekend event provided opportunities for worship and prayer alongside presentations on various spiritual themes.
Adult attendees participated in presentations from several priests, including Father Jorge Roldan, pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Salt Lake City, and Father Jose Barrera, pastor of San Felipe Parish in Wendover. Other presenters included Father Andre Sicard, parochial vicar of the Cathedral of the Madeleine, and Father Jonathan Tavera from the Archdiocese of Tlanepantla, Mexico.
Youth participants heard talks from Angel Garcia, director of the diocesan Office of Hispanic Ministry, and Carlos Bonilla from the national youth secretariat Region 5. Garcia encouraged youth to reflect on their vocation and the role of Jesus in their lives.
The theme for the congress was taken from John 14:27: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid."
Maria Juana Sena, a member of the Charismatic Renewal board of directors, stated the theme was chosen because of the uncertainty of the times and to provide tools for families to renew their faith in Jesus.
Participants noted the importance of the gathering for finding resources and support to keep Jesus at the center of family life. Mariana Jimenez, a parishioner of Saint Andrew’s in Riverton, said seeing families attend was an inspiration.
Rosie Debora, a server from Saint Francis Xavier Parish in Kearns, noted that being part of the Charismatic Renewal has been a blessing that helps her show others God's love.
