The Glen Canyon Special Service District of Big Water will hold a public hearing to set transfer station rates and fees on Wednesday, November 18, 2026. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Big Water Town Hall, located at 60 N Aaron Burr, Big Water, Utah.
According to a proposed draft fee schedule, several new rates are being considered for disposal services. Proposed fees include $5 for small hand-carried debris and $5 each for small furniture items. Larger items would face higher costs, such as $20 for a loveseat, $40 for a standard sofa, and $30 for a mattress or box spring. Large furniture or cabinets are also listed at $20 each.
Vehicle and trailer rates are also part of the proposed pricing. The draft suggests a $15 fee for a standard unmodified pickup bed with debris below half the bed-rail height, and $25 for a bed with debris up to the bed rails. Loads exceeding the bed rails or involving trailers would be charged more, with a $45 fee for a small trailer and $65 for a large or heaped trailer. Additionally, the draft proposes $50 for refrigerators and $20 per cubic yard for appliances like washers, dryers, and stoves.
The proposed fee schedule includes specific conditions for disposal. For mixed loads, customers would be charged the applicable vehicle or trailer load fee rather than individual furniture fees. Pickup categories are defined by an ordinary, unmodified pickup bed, and larger loads or sideboards would be calculated at the next sized rate. Furthermore, the district would require payment and approval of loads at Town Hall before disposal, and customers are responsible for unloading their own material.
The district currently faces restrictions on certain materials. The facility is unable to accept batteries, wet chemicals, hazardous waste, biohazardous waste, dead animals, liquids, wet paint, oil, asbestos-containing material, or unidentified waste. To assist customers with these items, the district plans to post the phone number for the Kane County Landfill at the facility to provide alternative disposal options.
The public hearing on Wednesday, November 18, 2026, will allow interested persons the opportunity to appear and be heard in support or in opposition to the proposed rates, with comments limited to a reasonable amount of time.
