Dr. Jon Anderson, the current president of PennWest, has accepted a new role as president of Utah Valley University. The appointment was made following recent action by the Utah Board of Higher Education, which serves as the governing body for the Utah System of Higher Education.
Anderson is expected to conclude his leadership at PennWest this coming August.
J.D. Dunbar, chair of the PennWest Council of Trustees, noted that Anderson helped guide the university through a period of transformation and progress over the last two years. Dunbar stated that Anderson's focus on student success and institutional strength has positioned the university well for its future.
During his tenure, PennWest saw progress on a new strategic plan, a comprehensive facilities master plan, and a redesign of academic programs. The university also worked to strengthen enrollment, fundraising, and partnerships related to workforce development and student success.
Anderson expressed gratitude toward the students, faculty, staff, and community partners at PennWest, stating that serving the institution was one of the greatest privileges of his career. He noted that while the decision to depart was difficult, he maintains confidence in the university's leadership.
The Board of Governors of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education is scheduled to meet in the coming weeks to appoint an interim president for PennWest.
