The driver of a gray sedan died Monday afternoon, August 31, following a head-on collision with a Utah Transit Authority bus. The crash occurred at approximately 1:50 p.m. on Redwood Road near 1050 South, according to Salt Lake City Police Sgt. Greg Wilking.
The collision involved a northbound UTA bus and a southbound gray sedan that crossed into oncoming traffic. While the sedan driver was deceased, a passenger from the vehicle was reported to be in serious condition. Additionally, four people from the bus were transported to local hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to serious, Wilking stated.
UTA spokesman Gavin Gustafson noted that the bus driver was able to walk away from the scene and was scheduled to be evaluated at a UTA facility.
A portion of Redwood Road was expected to remain closed for several hours, potentially through the evening rush hour, while investigators remained on the scene. Drivers were advised to use alternate routes during the investigation.
