The 2023 Youth Court Judges were officially sworn in by Mayor Tran during the City Council Meeting held on January 19. The Youth Court serves as a volunteer program designed to help high school students develop an understanding and respect for the legal process.
Program roles and responsibilities
Participants in the program serve in various roles, including judges, mentors, bailiffs, and clerks. Additionally, members teach peer counseling and peer tutoring classes.
Long-term support and structure
Operating for 22 years, the Youth Court is supported by two advisors, a representative from the Police Department, and a City Council representative.
Youth Council state capitol visit
In separate recent activity, the Kaysville Youth City Council, accompanied by advisor Linda Francis, attended Local Officials Day at the state capitol. Arranged by YCC liaison John Adams, the group met with Governor Spencer Cox, House Speaker Brad Wilson, and Senate President Stuart Adams. During the visit, Governor Cox expressed enthusiasm for the future and confidence in the youth.
Presidents Day holiday office closures
Kaysville City also announced that offices will be closed on Monday, February 20, in observance of Presidents Day. While offices are closed, garbage collection will not experience delays due to the holiday.
RAMP Grant application deadline
Additionally, the city is currently accepting RAMP Grant applications for Recreation, Arts, Museum, and Parks, which must be submitted to the Kaysville RAMP Advisory Committee by February 17, 2023.
