Utah drivers may experience delays this weekend as crews work on safety improvements and inspections on major freeway stretches. Officials with the Utah Department of Transportation said temporary lane closures are planned starting Thursday and continuing until Monday, impacting portions of both I-15 and I-80.
On eastbound I-80, traffic will be reduced to one lane between SR-36 and SR-201 near Lake Point on Thursday and Friday nights. This closure allows crews to remove barriers and install new guardrails as part of a project to improve I-80 and SR-36, which aims to improve traffic flow by widening SR-36 and adding an auxiliary lane on I-80.
UDOT officials stated that while all three lanes in each direction on SR-36 are now open, drivers should still expect temporary lane closures as final work is completed. The project is expected to conclude by the end of the summer.
Additional work on I-80 includes a lane closure in both directions in Parleys Canyon near the Mt. Aire exit on Saturday night for a bridge inspection. Nightly lane closures are also planned from Mountain Dell Reservoir to Lambs Canyon for paving.
I-15 in Utah and Juab Counties will undergo overnight closures on Monday and Tuesday nights. Crews will close lanes on sections of the freeway between Payson and Rocky Ridge to perform pavement testing.
Due to a forecast of scattered showers and thunderstorms this week, it is possible that these closures may be changed or rescheduled. All updates will be available on the UDOT traffic website.
