Extreme heat and critically dry conditions across much of Utah have led to several new wildfires over the weekend. A lightning-caused fire in Wasatch County grew to approximately 61 acres, while other incidents were reported in Washington County and West Bountiful.
The Buck Basin Fire in Wasatch County has become the largest of the recent incidents. According to Utah Fire Info, the fire grew to an estimated 61 acres by Sunday night, up from an initial report of about 30 acres earlier that afternoon. The blaze is burning in patches of timber within the Heber-Kamas Ranger District, located northwest of Currant Creek Reservoir.
Resources assigned to the Buck Basin Fire include two engines, a Type 1 helicopter, a Type 3 helicopter, and a single-engine air tanker, with a 20-person hand crew ordered. While smoke is visible from highways 40 and 35, Utah Fire Info stated there are currently no reported threats to communities or structures.
In Washington County, the Turkey Farm Fire was reported Sunday evening at approximately 5 acres. Utah Fire Info noted the fire is burning in an old burn scar and expressed high confidence that resources can contain it quickly. Dammeron Valley Fire & Rescue advised residents to check their Facebook page for potential evacuation updates.
In Davis County, South Davis Metro Fire Service Area crews responded to a grass fire in West Bountiful on Saturday afternoon. The fire, which was linked to yard work being performed by a homeowner, spread into a large woodpile and caused damage to the exterior of a residence. Firefighters contained the blaze before it could reach nearby structures, and no injuries were reported.
