The 2015 Butch Cassidy Days celebrated 15/0 years of Piute County with a multi-day schedule of events across Junction and Circleville. The festivities, themed through the decades, included community pageants, rodeo competitions, and historical commemorations.
Pageants and Rodeo Queen Contests
The event series began in early June with the Miss Piute Scholarship Pageant for Piute County residents at the Piute High School Auditorium on June 3. On June 27, the Rodeo Queen and Buckaroo Queen contests took place at the Junction Arena.
Musical Play and Time Capsule
In late July, the Piute Community Theater presented The Saga of Butch Cassidy, a musical play written and directed by Doug Allan, at the Piute High School Auditorium. During this time, attendees were invited to contribute items to a time capsule intended for opening in 2065.
Throwback Day Community Activities
Throwback Day on July 27 included exhibit acceptance at the Junction Firehouse and Community Center. Activities also featured a Water Day at Junction Park for children and a Bingo and Salsa Bar held at Circleville Elementary School.
Wild West Day Festivities
Wild West Day on July 28 included an Amazing Race event and a Barbecue and Hoedown at Junction Park, featuring baby back ribs and other menu items. The Pioneer Games Rally was also held at the Junction Baseball Field.
Groovin' Day and Charity Rodeo
Groovin' Day on July 29 featured Bubble Ball Soccer and a Neon 5K race starting at the Piute High School Track. On July 30, the community observed Reach Out Community Day, which included a Buckaroo Rodeo at the Junction Arena. Attendees were encouraged to bring jackets, coats, blankets, or canned food items to receive a discount on admission for donation to the Piute County Food Bank and local homeless shelter.
Sesquicentennial Championship Rodeo
Sesquicentennial Day on July 31 featured an open exhibit hall and a Championship Rodeo at the Junction Arena.
The festivities concluded with Patriot Day on August 1. The day included a parade themed through the decades, featuring floats, wagons, and old tractors. Entertainment at Junction Park featured the band MIKALENE, alongside various carnival games, a bird show, and jackpot barrel racing at the Junction Arena. The event ended with an outdoor dance at the Junction Park Pavilion featuring the band Borderline.
