The First-Gen Center at Utah Valley University offers numerous scholarships and tuition waivers each semester to help first-generation students succeed in college. These awards vary in quantity, requirements, and commitment levels to assist as many students as possible.
Mentoring Program Details
The 2026-2027 First Steps Mentoring Program Scholarship is currently open, with a deadline of June 1, 2026. This program provides support from a UVU mentor to help students navigate academic goals and connect with the campus community.
Executive Mentorship and Future Applications
Additionally, the First-Gen Executive Mentoring Scholarship allows students to build networks and enhance career development through mentorships with professionals. Other scholarship applications are scheduled to open again between November 1st and February 1st.
Tuition Waiver Requirements
The First-Gen Resident Waiver provides first-generation students up to half of in-state tuition, depending on other grants and scholarships. To be considered, students must indicate their first-gen status on ScholarshipUniverse. Requirements for the waiver include maintaining a minimum 2.5 GPA, being enrolled in at least 12 credit hours, and completing the FAFSA. This waiver is not valid during the summer semester and can be reapplied for for up to eight semesters.
Woodbury School of Business Opportunities
For students in the Woodbury School of Business, the WSB Hope Scholar Scholarship offers activities, monthly workshops, and mentoring. Applicants must be full-time students pursuing a degree within the Woodbury School of Business, qualify as first-generation, and maintain a cumulative UVU GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Automatic Scholarship Consideration
Students may also be automatically considered for the Josephine Chatfield First-Generation Scholarship and the First-Generation Student General Scholarship by answering first-gen questions in ScholarshipUniverse. Both require a FAFSA application and demonstrated financial need.
