Pamela Atkinson, a former special assistant to Gary R. Herbert, has passed away, according to a statement released October 11. Herbert described Atkinson as a remarkable servant and a tireless champion for individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty across Utah.
In his October 11 announcement, Herbert referred to Atkinson as Utah's Mother Teresa because her life reflected a profound love for those in need. He stated that she acted as a bridge-builder between people of all faiths, the Legislature, and various communities throughout the state.
Herbert noted that Atkinson's kindness, faith, and selfless service touched many lives and contributed to making Utah a better place. He added that her legacy will live on through the lives she lifted and the example she set for others.
Herbert and his wife, Jeanette, extended their condolences to Atkinson's family and loved ones in the statement.
